  1. I really enjoyed Dr. Dhadha's visit. He made you look in depth into Jourdon Anderson's story and it didn't even cause a headache like some history stories can! His method of imagining the story to help make it more interesting is definitely a technique I'll be using in my future history classes.

  2. I agree, Jenna. I think that the focus on individuals like that is fantastic. It really privileges the experience of those who may not otherwise have a chance to tell their tale...and we all have a valid tall to tell!

  3. I too enjoyed Dr. Dhadha's visit. While in high school, I didn't experience teachers/instructors that actually opened my eyes to a different way of viewing a "historical event". It was great to come along someone that could open my eyes to the rest of Jourdan Anderson's life behind the text.

  4. Dr. Dhada gave a perfect example of why is it important to look at context when reading a historical document. I enjoyed the way he could use context and historical knowledge to extract so much information from just one sentence. He certainly showed the class how such a short letter can have so much meaning and information.

  5. Dr. Dhada was awesome, I think we all enjoyed his enthusiasim in regards to the Jourdon Anderson letter. I do have a question about the part of the letter that says to send the money in care of the lawyer. Does he live with the lawyer, or what's the situation? He probably could not afford a lawyer to help him write the letter unless the lawyer was giving him legal services pro bo no. Or I was wondering if Jourdon worked for him, cleaning the law offices. Just a thought.

  9. Dr. Dhada did an excellent job in making history more than just learning important dates and facts. He opened my eyes into what history is really about, and that is placing yourself into someone else’s life .

  10. Dr. Dhada did an excellent job at capturing the whole class's attention, and he showed how important it is when reading any sort of text; to stop and analyze it. I really enjoyed Dr. Dhada's visit and would love for him to come visit our class again.

  12. Brilliant thought process and enthusiasm. Dr Dhada helped me to visualize this story in a setting and a time period. In my mind I was able to gather so much more meaning from it after his brief lecture.

  13. Dr. Dhada demanded attention wheh he talked and I find that to be very impressive when talking about history. Dhada tactics where none that I have encountered and hopefully since I learned a new technique I will no longer think of history in the same way. I was really able to contain the information that he fed us through his lecture.

  15. I want to thank each and everyone of you for inviting me to your class. Your participation, willingness to engage, and the intimacy of text you provided as I sought to share with you my passion and excitement about Jourdon’s text and history in general was truly heart-warming. I came out of the class on cloud nine. I felt truly enriched – as if I was now taking with me over fifty soul’s spirit in my heart. It was also a reminder to me that what I do as administrator is truly to enable moments like these to exist and come into play in and outside the classroom.

Please be well – and allow me to wish you a wonderful quarter. Invite me again. I will be happy to come and this time you all can teach me a thing or two.
